World Rail System (WR) Proposal: Construct a world connected rail system, primarily for transportation of goods, and secondarily for transportation of people. I suggest in starting at the Bering Strait a bridge be built connecting USA with Russia. The bridging distance is about 52mi or 83km and could pass through the Diomede Islands. From making use of ocean depth charts there could be a sizable easterward extension of both Alaska and to the Russian Diomede Island so that bridging over water becomes less extensive. From this point the rail would pass through China, south mainland Asian countries, through India, on up to Russia, through continental European countries, and passing through Africa. From Africa to South America, a distance of about 1,600mi or 2,575km would make it difficult, but not impossible to have a bridge being built.
